1. Create a Website


Whatever business venture you decided to take on, make sure you have a website. Its important for professionalism, that you have a website for people to visit and learn about your business. If hiring someone to build the website isn’t in the cards, there are lot of great template websites to help with your needs. Wix is super user friendly and has tons of templates to choose from. Purchasing your website domain is also another must on your to-do list. Even if you don’t have much content yet, getting everything started will put you ahead of the game.


2. Join Social Media


Having an active social media account is crucial to the success of your small business. As much as we want to think word of mouth or simply having a website will bring you business, this simply isn’t true. I am not saying you cant get any business without one, but there is a chance not having one can stunt your growth.


3. Collaborate


Meeting like-minded individuals that want to grow as much as you do, can help you along the way. Whether you’re starting a rental business or online clothing store. Finding other companies to team up with can drive traffic your way and help promote your product or service. For example if you’re starting an online jewelry business, find a photographer and join in on a styled shoot.


4. Network


Getting out into the world either physically or virtually will help you grow and learn more about running a business. Don’t be afraid to ask other companies in the same industry for help. You would be surprised how many people want to see you succeed. Find out who to meet and where to go to network.


5. Don’t give up


Even if you feel like your failing and you think you should be further along then you are, don’t give up. Starting, maintaining and growing a business is hard, it does not come easy and is a lot of work. I promise if you stick to it and work hard you will see the fruits of your labor.



6. Don’t compare


So you know that company you follow, the one that inspired you to start your journey. Well they are thriving and doing really good, guess what they weren’t always on top. At one point they were just like you, starting off and trying to survive. Trying to push through and make a name for themselves. They didn’t give up and keep jumping over hurtles to stay in the race. You can get there too! With some hard work and dedication you could one day be the business others are looking at for their inspiration to take a leap of faith.


7. Google Search Everything


I am not kidding with this one, Google search everything. If you don’t know how to start a website then Google it. You don’t know how to market well Google it. Everything you want to know about starting a business is on the Internet. I repeat everything. Do your research and take notes.


8. Know your worth


Most likely when you are starting off, you are going to have the urge to be the lowest priced and sell your soul to grow your business. Remember people will pay for your worth, let me repeat that, people will pay for your worth. Its ok in the beginning to be slightly cheaper then your competitors to help build your brand, but don’t sell yourself short.
